Night Owls @ River Resort in Khao Sok
By LooKwaH...

Customer Service Agents working the night shift stay up late (like all night owls do!) and work hard. So when four of us (P' Poo, Nan, Ni and I) decided to take a holiday in Khao Sok early June, the next natural step was to find 'a comfortable resort' to enjoy the break that would suit all of our tastes.

We heard a lot of good comments from friends and then checked travel websites for positive reviews. The Cliff & River Jungle Resort stood out as one of the best so we booked in and departed Phuket for Khao Sok on a Sunday afternoon. The three hour drive passed quickly enough and we arrived and checked in around 4pm – a nice time to settle in and enjoy the afternoon light.
The first thing we did on arrival was taking a lot of photos, which naturally made us all very hungry and we sat down to a huge, delicious feed. The quality of the food was excellent and all the staff was very friendly and welcoming.

The resort is located on Surat – Takuapa Road in Panom District of Surattani Province, which sounds simple enough. But if you decide to go you will have to keep your eyes peeled for a sign as it is the only landmark to direct you off the main road about 50 metres as it is nestled into a wooded area.

The weather was lovely when we arrived, with huge mountains at the back of the resort that help keep it temperate all year round. Bungalows are tucked into the hillside and on a flat cleared area, but if you book in advance to request rooms C1 to C12. They offer panoramic views of the resort and surrounding area but are booked solid through August on weekends, buy are often available during weekdays.

They are a nice value with a nightly room rate of 1,800 baht per night, double occupancy, including breakfast. But it is not like you have to spend all your time in the bungalow as there is so much to do. Activities range from elephant trekking to kayaking to name just a few, with kayaking priced at 600 baht per person.

However we had a long day and turned in early. We woke to the stunning sight of low lying mist blanketing the resort, which staff told us happens most mornings from sunrise to 10am. The temperature was perfect, cool and refreshing but not too cold. We took more photos that morning before having breakfast and checked out at around midday.

On the return drive back, we stopped at fruit stands that are everywhere along the road. All fruit was extremely fresh and ranged from durians, rambutans and mangosteen. Khao Sok is not far from Phuket and it was a fun trip. Making it perfect for a short break, especially for night owls looking to recharge their batteries and get ready for work the following week.
